The 18th
dynasty continues
with Amenhotep 1st (-1514, -1493) and will end two hundred years
later with
Horemheb. Few monuments have been recovered in Abydos coming from
this dynasty, what can also reflect the lack of excavations of research. The most important monument seems to be the chapel of 9 meters by 18 meters that I
Amenhotep 1st dedicated to its father Amhose. It was discovered
by Petrie in
1902 and consits of an external
colonnade with two rows of columns, a central piece with
6 columns opening on several
pieces.
Some recent excavations have
updated a temple of Thutmosis III,
close to the surrounding wall of the temple of Osiris (Maruejol,
2007). In a large surrounding
wall closed by a pylon, the temple in limestone drew a
rectangle of 9
m on 15 m, including two sanctuaries. The entry was flanked by 2 Osirislike statuaries of the Pharaoh. Petrie had himself
found different structures of this
king close to
the chapel of
Ier Amenhotep Ist
Harvey quotes more constructions possible of Thutmosis
IV and Akhenaton. The talatates of Akhenaton found
in Abydos seems
to come from a
temple constructs in this place (quoted by Vandersleyen,1995).
