Shunet el Zebib: Of 12 meter high, and of an approximate measurement of 65
m by 122 m, this construction made of raw brick has a great archaeological importance for the experts. This temple and the necropolis
were bound by
an upward path
and were part
of a funeral
complex. The architecture of
the raw brick wall reflects the evolution
of the architecture during this historic period. The wall, although it is in raw brick, is nested. To the exception of a small construction of bricks, the inside seems
empty.
lt would be about a called building "the Fortress of
the God" where was gathered the gods under animal or other
shape, but
not being again the familiar divinities of the following
periods. Collectively, they
were called the
"Next one of
Horus" and
arrived by boats since the
East. These displacements of
gods could be bound to the collections of taxes. It is also possible that have
been used for gathering of war prisoners with possible set to ritual death.
The king
was held in a special building. Mounds of sand have been recovered in buildings of this type, on which the king or his symbol as Horus, was
held above the assembly of the
gods. This assembly played
an important role
at the time of the Sed festival.. (according to D. Arnold
in Temples of
former Egypt, p.32-cf. Biblio page). Other rests of structures
of this type
have been recovered around the one of Khasekhem
The structure made of brick
threatening to collapse, an important funding stress has
been undertaken by American universities while using bricks constituted of the
same materials that the original
bricks. (to see the links on Shunet-el-Zebib) [Back]
