King Djer

On the list of Abydos, his name is Iti. Hegoverned from 3095 to 3040 A.D.  according to Vercoutter. The sources indicate that he accomplishes the ritual of the Sed festival. He pursued the politics of unification of the country. In the year 23, he won a victory on the" Asians ". The Egyptian army seems then capable to lead some operations in depth in Nubie.

His tomb in Abydos is bigger than the one of his predecessor. Although robbed, it provided many vestiges, of which a mummified arm. This tomb was used in the 18th dynasty like sanctuary of Osiris and remained it until the 26th dynasty. Rows of subsidiary tombs, to the total 338,  surround the main chamber, probably those of members of his suite. Have they been sacrificed at the time of his funeral or these tombs have been prepared while waiting for their deaths? The debate seems open on this point. The steles seem to indicate that the majority of the burials belongs to women.  You can see some beautiful photos of his tomb on the blog of Tatiana (to see the page links).

On a print of seal, the first three kings, Narmer, Aha, Djers are indicated by the mention"Horus, Khenti-Amentiu" contrary to the next one (according to Dreyer, quoted by Menu). Khenti-Amentiu is the deified king, Horus beyond the death. Osiris will resume this role.

King Djet "Snake"

Wadji-Djet is « Horus-Snake » (cobra). His name of the two goddesses is Iterty. His reign would have lasted 11 years, around 3040 B.C.  Around the royal tombs of Abydos, those of the courtiers, and sometimes of their dogs, are regrouped in tight and identified rows by coarse steles. His  wife, the queen Mer(yt)neith was regent at the time of the minority of their son Den.  You can see beautiful photos of his tomb on the blog of Tatiana (to see the page links).
