On theexternal west wall, were represented the episodes of the battle of Qadesh, one of the big events of the reign of Ramesses II.  It remains only the base. If you are interested by this battle, it is better to refer to the Ramesseum or to the temple of Louxor where the scenes are again practically complete. This battle opposed, in the year 5 of the reign of Ramesses II, the Pharaoh's army against   the Hittites  for the control of the region that spread between the two countries. It was nor a victory nor a defeat, but Ramesses II used it to glorify his action. Some years later, the two countries concluded a treaty of peace. An excellent description of the battle, the sources and the scenes of the different temples can be found in the website of Claude Obsomer (to see the page links).
